This 304 stainless steel spring is a hefty 7/8" in diameter and 11-3/4" long between the two pivot points.

Although easily collapsed for hatch closure, once open this spring delivers a rigid, tough, strut-style support that will bear up to 100 lbs. The attached mounting plates are also stainless steel, with sturdy black nylon end plugs. The mounting plates measure 2-1/8" x 1-7/8" and each accommodates four screws and/or through bolts (not included).
